Civil Aviation Ministry unearths Rs.200 crore scam in Pawan Hans

The new year is not all good for the aviation industry, as in the first week the Ministry has ordered an inquiry into a salary scam by Pawan Hans officials. A recent investigation by the Civil Aviation Ministry found that crores of rupees were paid to several senior Pawan Hans officers by wrong means and by flouting the law.
The investigation revealed that since 1997, some officers were paid much higher salaries than set industry standards while lower level officials were ignored. Now, the ministry has demanded suspension of the concerned officers.
The letter issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation has raised several questions on the functioning of Pawan Hans and wastage of crores of rupees to benefit senior board-level and below board-level officers. The copy of the letter accessed by indiatoday.in shows that the ministry has demanded action against the General Manager Personnel of Pawan Hans for flouting rules and immediate suspension in the prima facie investigation.
Ministry sources reveal that during the revision of salaries of Pawan Hans employees in 1997 and 2007, Director of Public Enterprises Guidelines were not followed. The Pawan Hans management has also been charged with not keeping the ministry informed about the same.
