Cat, pigeon blamed for Chennai airport tile fall

Chennai: You’ve all heard of cat-and-mouse games. Here’s one with a twist: a cat chased a pigeon in the middle of the night at the Chennai airport’s old international terminal and managed to cause 10 false ceiling tiles come crashing down.
“A pigeon was in the space between the false ceiling boards and the actual ceiling, when a cat started chasing it. As it chased the bird, the ceiling tiles may have loosened and fallen down,” said an AAI spokesperson.
The tiles fell over the corridor which leads to the arrival gate which passengers use to enter the airport after getting off planes. The 2x2 feet tiles had been installed well over a decade ago and were set to be overhauled along with the old terminal buildings. The last time ceiling panels fell at the airport was nine months ago, when a large 10 foot section crashed down at the new domestic terminal. It caps off a torrid month for AAI as glass breaks have become thrice-a-week affairs.
