False ceiling falls at old terminal at Chennai airport

Chennai: In the fourth such incident in the airport here since last month, a portion of false ceiling collapsed at the old Anna International terminal today.
About ten panels of the false ceiling near bay number 28 came crashing down around 3.30 am. However, none was injured in the incident, airport sources said.
A statement from Airport Authority of India said the slabs measuring 2 feet x 2 feet fell in the international arrival area, which is due for renovation.
"At the time of the incident there was no movement of passengers and the place was cleaned in an hour," it said.
The airport has been witnessing a spate of mishaps such as false ceiling falling and glass panels cracking at its new domestic and international terminals, built at a cost of over Rs 2,000 crore and inaugurated by Vice-President Hamid Ansari in January 2013, raising questions about the quality of the construction.
