Turning pad work gets underway at airport

Thiruvananthapuram: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has awarded work for the standardization of turning pad at Trivandrum International Airport(TIA). The work is expected to commence within 10 days after obtaining mandatory clearances from Civil Aviation.
The AAI has issued notice to airmen between 10.30am and 6am for carrying out the construction work. Two airlines operating large aircrafts, Emirates and Air India, have revised their flight schedules as the construction will reduce the Take-off Run Available, said an AAI official.
AAI had invited tender notice for standardization of turning pad, which is to widen the existing turning pad in both ends of runway 14-32 at the TIA at a cost of Rs 14.72 crore in September. The turning pad will take at least a year to complete. There are other developmental works scheduled to take place shortly at the TIA, which is part of the Rs 106.24 crore developmental work sanctioned by the Union government for TIA last year.
