Greenfield road project to Kannur airport cannot be abandoned: Minister

Kannur: Rural development minister K C Joseph said that the Greenfield road project, which is part of the upcoming Kannur International Airport, cannot be abandoned and the government will go ahead with it.

"In this connection, meetings were held on many occasions in which panchayath presidents and political leaders had attended," he told reports on the sidelines of a review meeting on the roads in the district at the Collectorate on Tuesday. "In the meetings there was consensus that the Greenfield road is a must but the condition was that its width should not go beyond 45 metres, and we also assure that the acquisition will be limited to 45 metres only."

The minister also said the government will go ahead with the project and due compensation will be given to the people whose land will be acquired. A meeting of the MLAs from the district is called for this purpose in Thiruvananthapuram on October 9, he said.
