New Delhi: India and Vietnam have agreed to work towards improving connectivity between the two countries, via both air and maritime. In a joint statement issued by the two nations after a meeting between the respective Premiers at New Delhi, India and Vietnam have resolved to encourage more airline companies to commence operations between the two. Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of Vietnam, is on a two-day visit to India.
During their meeting, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tan Dung emphasised the importance of connectivity between India and Vietnam, and welcomed the code-share agreement between Jet Airways (India) Ltd. and Vietnam Airlines, leading to the decision by the Indian carrier to commence flights to Ho Chi Minh City from November 5, 2014. The two Ministers expressed hope that Vietnam Airlines would also commence flight services to India shortly. They also urged airlines of both countries to further operate flights between Indian and Vietnam. They agreed to promote maritime connectivity between the two countries and ship-building cooperation.
