Plans to curb bird hits yet to take off

Margao: It's been almost a year since the South Goa district administration decided to implement measures to prevent aircrafts from suffering bid hits.

Sources point out that the bird hit cases have not stopped and the government will soon carry out a review of the measures for collection of garbage by the village panchayats of Velsao-Pale, Chicalim, Sancoale and Bogmalo-Chicolna and Mormugao municipal council (MMC).

In 2013, the district collector had given the four panchayats and MMC till October to clear garbage within 10km of Dabolim airport to prevent bird hits, failing which, he would proceed under Section 133 of the Cr.PC against them. This was in view of cases of bird hits because of mismanagement of garbage in the area.
