Aranmula in Colours: A Protest on Canvas

Kochi: The Aranmula Heritage Trust, thought up an innovative atyle to express its opposition to the Aranmula Airport project. They arranged a painting exhibition titled ‘Aranmula in Colours’ at TDM hall here. The exhibition showcases paintings of more than forty five artists. All these paintings have the same theme which is rural development.

The paintings were done during a three-day camp on the banks of Pampa river in Aranmula. Artists like Kanai Kunjiraman, Rimzon, Paris Mohan Kumar, Tenzing and Parthasarathy Varma took part in the camp. Each painting reflects the adverse effects of development on Aranmula and its natural beauty.

“The famous Aranmula mirror is using mud that is available only in that village. It is a specialty of Aranmula alone. Once the land is levelled, we will lose the special mud. Nature itself will be destroyed once such a largescale development takes place here,” said R S Nair, Executive director of the trust.
