Kochi, Lucknow among 13 airports to be CAT III-compliant by July-end

Chennai: Flight operations from Kochi, Lucknow, Patna and 10 other airports getting affected due to inclement weather will become a thing of the past from July-end this year.

The Indian Met office, along with Airports Authority of India, will install CAT III equipment at these 13 airports. This process will be completed by July 31.
Training pilots

Senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, however, warn that for flight operations to go on smoothly even during poor visibility, airlines will have to train their pilots to fly in CAT III conditions.

Meanwhile, the domestic airline industry has been given another week to present its views to the Ministry of Civil Aviation on how the 5/20 rule can be reworked without affecting the interests of both existing and new airlines in the sector.

This emerged at a meeting that was attended by senior officials of most domestic airlines here on Wednesday.
