Board Cabs from Arrival Gate of Airport Again

Chennai: When you fly down to the metro in the near future, your cab driver could pick you up when you step out of the terminal instead of making you trek to the parking lot and try hard to detect his number plate.

Eight months after they stopped allowing cars to drive right up to the arrival gates of Chennai Airport’s Domestic Terminal, mounting pressure from passengers and bureaucrats has forced a reversal. Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Chennai Traffic Police have agreed to re-open the lane adjoining the arrival gates for traffic on a trial basis.

“This decision has been taken jointly and the signage to indicate the change has been ordered. Police have some security concerns, so they will be bringing in some additional security measures during the trial run,” said Captain Deepak Shastri, Airport Director.
AAI has been flooded with complaints from elderly flyers, people accompanying disabled and stretcher-borne passengers.
