Donor’s heart transported to HAL airport in record time

Bengaluru: In yet another successful green corridor facility, the city traffic police transported a donor's heart from Victoria hospital to HAL airport on Saturday in a record time of 11.33 minutes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic East) B. Rajendra Prasad, who escorted the ambulance carrying the heart, said 18 officers including three ACPs, six inspectors and eight sub-inspectors were deployed for the job.

Zero clearance was arranged for 15 km from Victoria Hospital to HAL via Market, SJP Road, Town hall, Hudson Circle, Kasturba Road, M.G. Road, Trinity Junction and Airport Road.

The ambulance which started from 12 p.m. from the hospital took 11.33 minutes to reach HAL Airport, from where the heart was taken to Hyderaband on a chartered flight, Mr. Prasad said.

All traffic junctions on the route were put on alert and the staff at the control room was monitoring and directing the movement of traffic to create a smooth route for the ambulance.
