New Delhi: Delhi airport will no longer allow first-class and business-class passengers, on either international or domestic routes, to form a separate queue to go through security checks.
The move is the result of a quixotic circular that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security put out in late February but started implementing this week at the T3 terminal of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The circular is being implemented only at Delhi airport though some passengers have complained that they have faced similar problems at other airports as well.
The ostensible reason for the circular is the heightened security at the country's busiest airport.
Officials said there would be separate check-ins for business and executive-class passengers at airline counters but not at security control.
The action flies in the face of worldwide trends where governments, airport authorities, security forces and airlines work together to fast-track the entry and exit of passengers who are ready to fork out more than three times the average economy-class fare on both domestic and international routes to ensure hassle-free travel.
First-class fares are usually six to eight times the economy fares. Business-class passengers pay three to four times more than those who fly economy class.
