India: Private carriers in financial stress, asked to take corrective steps: Minister

New Delhi: Private domestic carriers are in varying degree of financial stress and have been told to take corrective measures to strengthen their balance sheet without compromising the safety of operations, Indian Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma informed Lok Sabha on Monday.

The Minister was responding to a question on the financial health of the airlines and the measures taken to mitigate the problems.

An assessment of impact of financial stress on safety of operations of private scheduled airlines has been carried out by the aviation regulator DGCA last year, he said.

“It has been found that all private airlines are in varying degree of financial stress,” he said.
