Kandahar hijack: Congress attacks BJP after ex-RAW chief AS Dulat's revelations

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday said former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief AS Dulat's interview to India Today TV has revealed "disturbing facts" about the Kandahar hijack of Indian Airlines IC 814 plane in 1999 and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must apologise on behalf of his party.
"They have compromised the interests of the country whenever they have been in power. Who was behind these decisions? The prime minister should break his silence and apologise to the country," Congress spokesperson Ajoy Kumar said.
Dulat, author 'Kashmir: The Vajpayee Years', headed RAW till 2000 before he was appointed as Special Advisor on Kashmir in the PMO during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. In his interview with Karan Thapar, he said the Kandahar hijack was "goofed up" as no one wanted to take a decision fearing loss of lives.
