Kannur gears up to take flight

Kannur: Kannur’s wait to figure on the international aviation map will soon be over. If everything goes as planned, the first flight would land on the brand new runway at Moorkhanparambu in December.

About thousand workers, including technical experts, are working on a war-footing to meet the deadline at the site located in Keezhallur panchayat in Mattannur municipality. The period between August and December is going to be crucial in completing the construction of the airport.

The coming days would witness a flurry of activities as everyone involved in the mega project will be committed to reach the finishing point by December, which is the deadline set by the government. Moreover, it is a matter of pride and prestige for the Kannur International Airport Ltd. (KIAL), the company floated by the State government for the development of the Rs.1,892-crore project.

The incessant rain has forced the employees engaged in drilling works to stay off the site. They will return to work once the rain recedes.
