AAI to install a new ATC at Juhu airport

Mumbai: At a recently held meeting, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) decided to install a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower at Juhu Airport. A source from Juhu ATC told The Asian Age that aircraft and helicopters used to miss signals while turning south from Juhu. “The existing tower is old and is in a bad condition so if AAI installs a new tower, it will help us get proper signals which will help helicopters flying towards oil rigs,” said the source.
The source said AAI is going to set up an antenna atop the new ATC situated at the domestic airport in Vile Parle to better assist chopper pilots. An officer from ATC told this newspaper, “With the skies crowded by airplanes, things are becoming difficult for helicopters. They need some extra support for good navigation.”
