Political turmoil over Kannur airport project

Kannur: The Kannur International Airport is all set to be a poll issue once the campaign hots up in the district in a couple of days.

This may sabotage the current tenuous consensus among political parties over the ongoing airport works, the local protests against land acquisition for its runway extension, and on road development.

The first salvo against that move was fired by Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday when he said that the UDF government was planning to hurry the commissioning of the airport as soon as 2,400 metres of the runway is in place, instead of waiting for the completion of the planned length of 3,600 metres.
